Charlotte, NC (Thursday, May 2, 2024)— Louisiana’s Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) today announced the renewal of its long-term partnership with global edtech leader Discovery Education supporting student learning, development, and achievement. The continuation of this partnership enables teachers across CPSB to build dynamic classroom experiences that nurture student curiosity and prepares them for success in the world beyond the classroom.
CPSB is one of the largest school districts in Louisiana, with more than 4,900 employees and over 2,600 teachers. CPSB connects over 28,000 students to innovative opportunities that foster academic excellence and expand personal and future professional horizons. Available in classrooms across CPSB, Discovery Education Experience is an innovative K-12 learning platform that connects educators and students to a vast collection of high-quality content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources. These resources, sourced from trusted partners, are aligned to state and national standards, and help educators bring the outside world into teaching and learning every day. Through expanded, lasting partnerships with Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, Brightspace, ClassLink, and Clever, integrating Discovery Education’s learning platform into existing Information Technology architecture is easier than ever.
Mystery Science. Used in K-5 classrooms alongside Discovery Education Experience, Mystery Science provides educators simple-to-use, open-and-go, hands-on lessons that inspire students to love science. Each lesson begins by posing a question commonly asked by young students. Students then explore these questions through interactive videos featuring real-world visuals fostering a sense of wonder and actively supporting student engagement in the accompanying discussion prompts. Mystery Science simplifies prep for teachers, making the integration of this resource into classroom instruction simple. Plus, all K-5 science lessons are available in Spanish, with accompanying videos featuring authentic Spanish narration and Spanish text-on-screen. Editable, ready-to-use worksheets and assessments are also available in both English and Spanish.
CPSB’s partnership with Discovery Education is funded in part through the generosity of LyondellBasell, whose Lake Charles area sites employ approximately 700 local residents. Committed to understanding community needs and collaborating with organizations to create long-lasting and impactful relationships, LyondellBasell seeks to amplify their impact on building a thriving society through employee volunteerism and community investments.
